10 HIGHLIGHTS OF HALONG UNIVERSITY IN 2023
In 2023, the leadership, staff members, and teachers of Halong University unceasingly endeavored to successfully fulfill their assigned tasks. With a spirit of solidarity, creativity, and innovation, Halong University achieved notable results in various areas of activity, gradually asserting its position and reputation as a university in strong development. Let’s reflect on the 10 most prominent achievements of the university in 2023.
- Consolidation of leadership and key management personnel
In March 2023, the Chairman of the People’s Comittee of Quang Ninh Province issued a Decision recognizing the Rector of Halong University for the term 2020-2025, completing the consolidation of the university’s leadership. In 2023, 2 Vice Rectors were appointed, along with the appointment and reappointment of 8 positions as heads and deputy heads of departments, faculties, and centers. The consolidation of key leadership and management positions has enhanced the stability of the university’s organizational structure, continuing to maximize effectiveness and collective strength.
2. Successfull enrollment and education
In 2023 witnessed a breakthrough in enrollment activities. For the first time ever, the university exceeded the milestone of enrolling 2.000 students (reaching 2.129 students, surpassing the provincial enrollment target and being the highest year in history); the current training scale reached over 7.000 students, with undergraduate students accounting for 93%. The university has provided training for 12.460 civil servants and officials of Quang Ninh Province. This underscored the significant increase in the university’s training capacity and scale.
- Completion of the accreditation of 7 undergraduate programs
Halong University successfully completed the external evaluation of 7 undergraduate programs in 2023, bringing the total number of accredited and externally evaluated programs to 10. Consequently, all accredited programs were accredited, externally evaluated, and met the quality standards set by the Ministy of Education and Training.
4. Implementation of the Master’s degree program
In 2023, Halong University admitted students for the first time to the Master’s degree program in 3 fields: Tourism and Hospitality Management, English Language, and Computer Science. After 9 years of operation, Halong University has now established 20 undergraduate and post graduate programs, including 17 undergraduate and 3 post graduate programs, marking a significant development in response to societal needs.
5. Impressive and large-scale graduation ceremony; increased employment opporturnity
For the first time, Halong University organized a large-scale graduation ceremony for over 800 students at the Provincial Conference Center with professionalism and impressiveness, along with the attendance of international guests and representatives from Provincial departments; attracted the attention of a large audience of students’ families. Importantly, students of Halong University received a lot of job offers and interviews from businesses even before officially obtaining their diplomas.
6. Completion of the relocation and rearrangement of some units to Campus 1
In 2023, Halong University relocated and rearranged Faculty of Tourism and Faculty of Culture from Campus 2A to Campus 1. The university provided lecture halls, classrooms, practical training rooms, and office rooms for staff members and teachers; rearranged the canteen, official residence, cooperative school service model, meanwhile added more transportation vehicles for the convinience of teachers and staff members working at Campus 1. Therefore, the teachers and staff members could enjoy stable working conditions to contribute, and students could experience improved facilities at Campus 1.
7. Significant changes in scientific and technological activities
In 2023, Halong University underwent a transformation in its scientific and technological, focusing on services to support the Province’s key economic sectors, including transferring outcomes from national and provicial projects, 5 projects ordered by businesses, 5 community-based eco-tourism models, agricultural tourism and 2 technological processes for local and external businesses. This year, the university also had a significant number of scientific publications, with 152 articles published in domestic and international journals. The university’s scientific journal issued a Special Issue commemorating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Quang Ninh Province, themed “Culture and Tourism in the Global Integration Era”
8. Active international cooperation
In 2023, Halong University welcomed over 30 international delegations, signed cooperation agreements with 20 partners both domestically and internationally, implemented 3 international projects, hosted numerous international experts and lecturers for academic exchanges; initiated various student exchange programs and offered attractive scholarships for learners; received and trained the largest number of Lao students to date, totaling 204 students. International cooperation, especially with Japan and South Korea, deepened significantly. The university and partners established the Center for Japanese Culture and Language – Halong University and founded King Sejong Academy to teach Korean, accompanied by a series of remarkable culture exchange activities with Japan and South Korea.
9. Active participation in political, social and community activities
In 2023, Halong University participated in more than 30 art performances to serve major political events in Quang Ninh Province. Notable events included: The 60th anniversary of Quang Ninh Province’s establishment, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Halong City, the Hokkaido festival in Halong, which involved more than 1.600 teachers and students of the university. These activities reinforced the university’s position, role, and capability to organize large-scale events. This year, the university also implemented numerous active and pratical activities in the youth movement, receiving praise such as supporting examination season, welcoming freshmen, engaging in humanitarian campaigns, donating blood, which attracted active participation of students.
10. Preliminary evaluation of Halong University’s development model
The conference to preliminary evaluate the development model of Halong University for the period of 2015 – 2030 was held in December, 2023. The conference affirmed the significant achievements of the university compared to the goals set in the establishment of the Project. Moreover, the conference also outlined the direction and development strategy of the university in the upcoming period, focusing on the urban university model and positioning Halong University as a leading local university in the Northern region. The university aims to contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of Quang Ninh Province and the surrounding areas.
As 2023 concludes with numerous remarkable achievements in various activities of Halong University, these results serve as an important motivation, creating solid faith in the solidarity, dedication, and energy of the entire staff members, teachers, and workers, to break-through for more achievements in 2024, marking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Halong University.
