Representatives of Ha Long University attended and had a speech at the Erasmus+ Day Conference in 2024

Representatives of Ha Long University attended the Erasmus+ Day Conference in 2024 as a speaker, and held an art performance within the framework of the VIETMUS project - funded by the European Union

The Erasmus+ Day Conference was held in Hanoi on October 22 and 23, in coordination between The Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam (EUDEL) and the Ministry of Education and Training. Ha Long University was honored to be invited as a speaker and to present an art performance to open the Conference. The event attracted nearly 50 higher education institutions from European Union (EU) member countries and more than 100 higher education institutions in Vietnam, and attracted over 500 online viewers.

The Conference had the presence of high-ranking officials: Vice President of the European Commission; Deputy Minister of Education and Training; EU Ambassador to Vietnam; Romanian Ambassador and representatives of EU member countries in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Vice President of the European Commission, Mr. Margaritis Schinas shared: “Erasmus+ has long been a symbol of excellence in education and cultural exchange in Europe. However, the international scope of the program has gone far beyond the EU, promoting global partnerships and enhancing mutual understanding. Expanding the influence of Erasmus+ not only opens up more educational opportunities, but also strengthens cooperation with countries around the world, including Vietnam.”

At the Conference, Deputy Minister of Education and Training – Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc said: “Education and training is the top priority policy of Vietnam, and education development is considered one of three strategic breakthroughs to implement Vietnam’s Socio-economic Development Strategy. Vietnam has a clear vision towards the need to proactively integrate globally andto  promote foreign investment in the education sector to improve the quality of education in the country. It can be said that, up to now, the partnership between Europe and Vietnam has developed strongly, in which higher education cooperation is a major focus.

The conference’s discussions focused on the main components of Erasmus+ such as Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE), International Credit Mobility (ICM) and Jean Monnet Actions (JMA). Representatives of universities from the two regions shared practical experiences, discussed Project 89 – Vietnam’s high-quality human resource development program, and shared the achievements and opportunities that Erasmus+ brings about.

The view of the Conference

At the discussion session, Ms. Phan Thi Hue, Vice Rector of Ha Long University, was invited as a speaker representing the national coordinator unit of the VIETMUS project in Vietnam. She gave a speech about Ha Long University; the Capacity Building Program for Higher Education (CBHE) under the ERASMUS framework; and the digital music cooperation partnership project, between art education institutions in Europe and in Vietnam: “VIETNAM Music Universities Spurring – Vietmus”. The speech drew the attention of many delegates and universities participating in the Conference.

In particular, the performance program reporting the results of the project on the Art Performance Program with the application of digital technology in remote performance will be held in Vietnam in the second quarter of 2025.

To demonstrate the application of the VIETMUS project, Ha Long University brought to the conference a traditional musical instrument performance to welcome the conference with a musical work introducing the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam. The work “Around Vietnam” was performed on the melody of traditional Vietnamese musical instruments (16-string zither, Flute, Vietnamese 2-chord fiddle, Vietnamese 36-chord zither, monochord, T’rung) by lecturers of the Faculty of Arts – members of the VIETMUS project, along with a slideshow showing the beautiful natural landscape of Vietnam and the World’s Natural Wonder – Ha Long Bay, which impressed the delegates attending the conference.

Vietnam is a country that has benefited greatly from the Higher Education Capacity Building Programme with a total capital of over 66 million euros. From 2015 to 2023, more than 3,400 Vietnamese students and education staff have had the opportunity to participate in short-term exchange programmes in Europe within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme. The number of Vietnamese students receiving the EU’s prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarships is also in the top 20 worldwide.

Ha Long University participates in 3 Erasmus + projects in the period 2020-2027:

  1. Monitoring Trends In Vietnamese Employment (MOTIVE) project, implementation period of 3 years (2020-2023), aiming to enhance the capacity of universities in Vietnam to be able to adapt tools and methods for collecting, storing, and monitoring data of students after graduation, so as to meet the general requirements of the Ministry of Education and Training; and Developing the capacity of universities in Vietnam to exploit data on graduates to evaluate and ensure training quality;
  2. Vietnam Music Universities Spurring (VIETMUS), implementation period of 2 years from 2024-2025, aiming to exploit artificial intelligence and technology to apply in teaching and remote performance; promoting intercultural exchange and experimenting with digital tools, shaping the future of music performance and education.

    3. Developing Education in Vietnam and Cambodia Enhancing Employability (DEVICE) project, expected duration of 36 months, expected launch time in January 2025.
