As part of the implementation of the project “Prevention, Reduction and Recycling of Fishnet Pollution in Vietnamese Coastal Waters” (REVFIN), from June 16 to June 18, 2025, Ha Long University successfully hosted the third regular project meeting, with the participation of a wide range of delegates from provincial departments, as well as project members from both domestic and international universities.

Representing Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences (Germany) – the project’s lead coordinating institution – was Professor Dr. Max Ehleben, Head of Institute for Recycling and Project Leader of REVFIN, accompanied by three researchers from the Institute.

The view of the meeting

From Quang Ninh Province, the meeting welcomed representatives from the Department of Science and Technology, the Ha Long Bay Management Board, project leaders and members from Halong University, and other Vietnamese partner institutions, including Nha Trang University, Kien Giang University, the Research Institute for Marine Fisheries (RIMF), the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFISH), the Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA), and companies in the fishnet and plastic manufacturing industry such as Super Truong Phat Plastic Group Joint Stock Company and SIAM Brothers Vietnam Joint Stock Company.

The three-day working program focused on key contents such as: reporting the results of project work packages, planning for integrating research outcomes into training and scientific activities, communication strategies, presentation of experimental results on fishnet degradation under environmental conditions, and field surveys of plastic recycling technologies in traditional craft villages.

As part of the working program, from June 19 to June 20, 2025, Halong University and other member institutions of the REVFIN Project will conduct a field visit and working sessions with Super Truong Phat Plastic Group Joint Stock Company – a project member (Truong Phat Joint Stock Company) – in Hung Yen, as well as visit various plastic waste recycling and treatment sites.

This working session provided a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to evaluate project progress, exchange implementation experiences, and offer constructive feedback to enhance the effectiveness of the project. It also reaffirmed the shared commitment to marine environmental protection and the successful realization of the REVFIN Project’s objectives.
