The Vietnamese language training program for foreigners, organized by the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, helps international students communicate in Vietnamese and understand Vietnamese culture; connect Vietnamese with specialized fields to obtain necessary academic information; and develop an understanding of the nature of the Vietnamese language and culture to participate in the multilingual community in Vietnam and abroad.

This program is designed to establish a foundation for teaching, learning, and assessing Vietnamese for international students, serving as a basis for developing updated and modern Vietnamese teaching materials according to the 6-level competency framework; contributing to the development of the Vietnamese language and cultural identity.

The program is structured into 6 levels: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 5, and Level 6. The total training duration is 1320 hours. The study and practical hours for each level are 200 hours, with the remaining 20 hours dedicated to practical activities.

The program emphasizes the development of four skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing, with a greater focus on the two most common skills: listening and speaking.

1. Target Audience:

  • Graduates with a university degree.
  • Individuals interested in teaching Vietnamese to overseas Vietnamese and foreigners.

2. Course Details:

Total duration: 60 hours, studied over 8 weeks; classes include:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; or Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; three sessions per week, each session lasting 2 hours (students can choose morning, afternoon, or evening classes);
  • Two Saturdays and Sundays: one session each day in the morning or afternoon, each session lasting 3 hours.

  1. Foreign Language Teaching Methods (10 hours)
  2. Characteristics of Vietnamese Phonetics and Teaching Listening and Speaking Skills (14 hours)
  3. Characteristics of Vietnamese Vocabulary and Teaching Reading Skills (12 hours)
  4. Characteristics of Vietnamese Grammar and Teaching Writing Skills (12 hours)
  5. Vietnamese Language Competency Framework for Foreigners by the Ministry of Education and Training and Sample Exam (10 hours)
  6. Final Exam (2 hours)

4. Learning Outcomes:

  • Master basic knowledge and skills in foreign language teaching; educational psychology.
  • Understand the basic characteristics of Vietnamese phonetics: syllable structure, phonemic system, dialect pronunciation, and key considerations when teaching Vietnamese pronunciation.
  • Understand the basic characteristics of Vietnamese vocabulary: word formation, simple and compound words, reduplication, word meanings, and key considerations when teaching Vietnamese vocabulary.
  • Understand the basic characteristics of Vietnamese grammar: word types, phrases, sentences, and key considerations when teaching Vietnamese grammar.
  • Understand the Vietnamese Language Competency Framework by the Ministry of Education and Training and the structure and requirements of an exam, including sample exams.

5. Certification:

After completing the course and passing the required assessments, students will receive a certificate from the Foreign Language and Information Technology Center of Hong Bang International University and may be invited to teach Vietnamese classes organized by the Center if desired.
